# Challenge exam: let students test out

**Pro feature:** This page needs TrueCommunity Pro.

A challenge exam lets an experienced student **skip the course**. If they pass it, the whole course is marked complete.

## Create a challenge exam

1. Open the course and click the **Challenge Exam** tab.
2. Type a title and click **Create challenge exam**.
3. Click **Edit exam** and add questions, just like a normal quiz.
4. Click **Publish**.

The Challenge Exam tab

You can also turn an existing quiz into the challenge exam: open the quiz in the Quiz Editor and turn on **Make this the course challenge exam (test out)**.

## Rules

- A course has **one** challenge exam.
- Students get **a single attempt**.
- **Pass** → the whole course is complete.
- **Fail** → they work through the lessons as normal. The exam cannot be retaken.
- The exam is not shown in the normal quiz list or inside lessons — only in the Challenge Exam tab.

## Only redirect new enrollees

When this option is on, only students who have not started the course are sent to the challenge exam when they open the course. Students already working through the lessons are left alone.

To stop using the exam, click **Remove as challenge exam**.
