# Add topics inside lessons

Topics break a lesson into small steps. For example, a lesson "Running interviews" could have the topics "Preparing questions", "During the interview" and "After the interview".

## Add a topic

1. Open the course and go to the **Lessons** tab.
2. Click the **⋮** menu on a lesson and choose **Add topic**.
3. Type the **Topic title** and click **Add topic**.

The topics appear under the lesson. Drag them to reorder.

## Edit a topic

Click the **⋮** menu on a topic:

- **Edit** — write the topic content in the **Topic Editor**
- **Settings** — the same rules as lessons: drip release, video, file upload, timer and more. See [Lesson and topic rules](https://truecommunitypro.com/docs/lesson-rules/).
- **Delete** — remove the topic

## How students see topics

Students open a lesson and see **Topics in this lesson**. They open each topic and click **Mark topic complete**. The lesson can only be finished when all its topics are complete.
