# Troubleshooting

## The community page shows "Page not found"

1. Go to **Settings → Permalinks** and click **Save Changes** (you do not need to change anything). This refreshes your site's links.
2. Make sure permalinks are not set to **Plain**.
3. Make sure no normal page or post uses the same address as your community slug.

## Members are not getting emails

1. Check the event is ticked in **TrueCommunity → Mail → Notification Emails**.
2. Many hosts block normal PHP mail. Install an SMTP plugin, such as **WP Mail SMTP**, and connect a real mail service.
3. Ask the member to check their spam folder.

## Uploads fail or files are "too large"

The upload size is limited by **TrueCommunity → General → Maximum Upload Size** and by your server. If you need bigger files, ask your host to raise `upload_max_filesize` and `post_max_size`, then raise the setting in TrueCommunity.

## A menu item is missing from the community

That module is probably turned off. Check **TrueCommunity → Modules**. The **Members** page also needs the **Stories** module.

## I don't see the "Create Group" or "Add New Course" button

Only site administrators see these buttons. Log in with an administrator account.

## Old users don't show in the member directory

Go to **TrueCommunity → Migrate Users** and click **Start Migration**. See [Migrate existing users](https://truecommunitypro.com/docs/migrate-users/).

## TrueCommunity Pro won't activate

Pro needs the free **TrueCommunity** plugin. Install and activate the free plugin first, then activate Pro.

## I can't update TrueCommunity Pro

Go to **TrueCommunity → License** and check the status. It must say **Active**. See [Install Pro and activate your license](https://truecommunitypro.com/docs/install-pro/) for what each license message means.

## Lessons are locked for a student

The course probably moves **in order**, so earlier lessons and quizzes must be finished first. A lesson can also be locked by a drip date, a timer, a video, a file upload or attendance. With Pro, check the lesson's **Settings** and the course's **How members move through this course** option.

## Gamification is not giving points

1. Check **Gamification** is on in **TrueCommunity → Modules**.
2. Remember that activities on their own pay nothing. Points come from badges, challenges and lesson/topic completion points.
3. Check the activity row is **Active** and its **Applies to** is correct.

## Still stuck?
